Historical Significance
The FN Model 1930 is one of the most successful Mauser 98-pattern military rifles ever produced outside of Germany. Manufactured by Fabrique Nationale in Herstal, Belgium — one of Europe's foremost arms makers since 1889 — the Model 1930 series was exported to military forces across the globe, from South America to Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Built on the proven Mauser Gewehr 98 action with a standard-length receiver (223 mm / 8.8 in), these rifles were manufactured to exacting Belgian industrial standards and offered in a variety of calibers to suit each client nation's requirements. The .30-06 Springfield chambering reflects either a post-WWII production or conversion — a caliber widely adopted by NATO-aligned and American-supplied nations in the late 1940s and 1950s. FN's Mauser-pattern rifles served in conflicts ranging from the Chaco War to the Korean War, and remained in active service with some nations well into the 1980s. Production of the last FN Mauser-pattern rifles ceased in 1964, marking the end of the bolt-action military era.
